Performance and art is conspicuous waste [time and resources].
Circumstances are profoundly boring; we're sitting here reading and writing and watching while "real life" passes by.

I knew from the moment they picked them up they were gonna be smashed. Not a lot of suspense in my book. If they wanted suspense, those cats'd have to get trained. I'm referring, of course, to the smashers, not the smashed.
